Sociology 302: Forest and Culture

Overview:  This fascinating class is what got me started in the Sociology Program.  It was taught by Dr. Sing C. Chew, one of the foremost experts on deforestation in the world, and the resulting dark ages.  It dealt mainly with two subjects: 1) World ecological devastation caused through history through deforestation, and 2) Strategies for Sustainable forest practices.  I wrote three papers for the class.  They can be read by clicking on the links below.

Paper Number 1: World Ecological Degradation- An overview

Paper Number 2: The Economic, Political, and Social forces Destroying our Planet

Paper Number 3:  Summary of Lessons Learned, and a Call to Action
